Why Don't You Say That To My Face?!

Tax

Dictionary Definition:

A sum of money demanded by a government for its support or for specific facilities or services, levied upon incomes, property, sales, etc.

President Obama's new Health Care Bill.

Shawn Tulley recently wrote on CNN Money (yes the same CNN that deified President Obama during the 08 presidential election) "The crucial question about Obama's agenda has always been whether it really will slow the disastrous rise in health-care spending, or actually increase it while hiding the real costs of the new system. On analyzing the bills, the conclusion is inescapable: Obama promises Americans what appears to be a bargain by heavily subsidizing their premiums. But the only way to pay for what's really outrageously expensive coverage will be huge tax increases, especially on the same middle class that's being wooed as the chief beneficiary of reform."

He also states, "The administration pledges that his health-care plan won't expand the deficit because it will be entirely paid for by tax increases."

Wait, WHAT?! PAID FOR BY TAX INCREASES? Say it ain't so Barack.

Let's sample some campaign rhetoric used by Barack Obama while campaigning for President of the United States of America.

While campaigning in Dover, New Hampshire on September 12, 2008 President Obama said, "I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

Oh really?

Isn't it the President himself that is pushing hard currently to pass legislation that would impose a cap and trade system that would increase a families energy costs? Also, isn't it President Obama that is pushing hard to have legislation passed that would introduce a value added tax (VAT) into our existing tax structure?

Thomas Jefferson said it in 1789 as good or better than I can currently in 2009.

"The earth belongs to each of these generations, during its course, fully, and in their own right. The second generation receives it clear of the debts and encumbrances of the first. The third of the second and so on. For if the first could charge it with a debt, then the earth would belong to the dead and not the living generation. Then no generation can contract debts greater than may be paid during the course of its own existence."

Common sense would dictate that if you said...

"I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

THAT YOU WOULD NOT RAISE TAXES.

President Obama (not that he will ever see this, but it would be awesome if he did) just because the letters t, a, and x do not appear in terms such as cap and trade or VAT (even though the latter acronym does technically include the letters t, a, and x) does not mean that these things are not TAXES!

Again, the dictionary definition of the word TAX:

A sum of money demanded by a government for its support or for specific facilities or services, levied upon incomes, property, sales, etc.

Let me impart some additional common sense instruction to anyone who might potentially read this little blog of mine...

SPEND LESS THAN YOU MAKE! That is, if you can while paying over 50% of your income to the government because they apparently are not riding on the SPEND LESS THAN YOU MAKE BUS.

We are currently growing our national deficit at a rate that cannot be sustained. For anyone who doesn't understand what happens when you spend more than you make for too long, let me clear that up for you. YOU GO BANKRUPT.

Raising taxes and spending your way out of debt is not common sense, it is pure foolishness. Good thing none of us U.S. citizens will have to worry about that happening to us though because as President Obama said, "I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

Amen President Obama, AMEN!

Here's to hoping you join the last U.S. President (George Bush I) that told Americans he would not raise their taxes during his campaign only to do so anyways. He only got one term and hopefully, so will you.
